Allas Pool is a vibrant wellness and culture centre in the heart of Helsinki. Guests can spend a relaxing day at the seaside pools, enjoy a meal, drink or a coffee at the Allas restaurants, attend a concert, or take part in an exercise class. Additionally, Allas Pool offers turnkey services for private and corporate events.
Together with Allas Pool, we developed a native application that enhances the experience for frequent visitors.

As a wellness service, Allas Pool aims to maintain an excellent relationship with its customers. Regular visitors can become Allas Members, enjoying unlimited access to pools, saunas, and classes, restaurant discounts and more.
With so much happening at Allas at all times, communication can be challenging. It’s easy for guests to miss a class or event simply due to the sheer variety and abundance of activities on offer.
Additionally, rush hours are a common issue in wellness spaces and can sometimes occur unexpectedly. The same holds true for situations such as repairs and maintenance. Providing visitors with a reliable way to check real-time occupancy and status of the facilities would not only enhance the customer experience but also make life easier for Allas Pool employees.
To address these challenges, Allas Pool set out to develop a mobile app tailored for frequent visitors. The user experience needed to reflect the standards of the physical location – making a seamless, high-quality native app the natural choice.
Allas Pool has a strong relationship with its loyal customers, making them highly accessible for user research. This proved to be a goldmine, as a series of interviews allowed us to map out how the mobile app could best serve Allas Members.
Following this service design phase, the key features selected for the final product included:
– Purchasing and renewing Allas memberships
– Real-time occupancy status: how busy the space is, available lockers
– Booking workout and wellness classes, events
– My Journey: keeping track of personal training history
– Special offers and promotions
The primary design goal of the project was to use the app as a tool for delivering a personalised experience to Allas Members. Users can check real-time occupancy levels in the pool and locker rooms, helping them plan their visits more effectively. The app also sends automatic booking reminders, reducing no-shows and enabling Allas Pool to manage resources more efficiently while enhancing the overall customer experience.
Beyond purchasing memberships and booking classes, the app also integrates with customer wristbands, collecting data that is displayed as personal statistics. This feature allows visitors to track their wellness journey, adding an extra layer of personalisation to their experience.
During the development of the app, Allas Pool was undergoing a comprehensive brand overhaul in collaboration with Bond Creative Agency.
Aligning the app’s release with the rebrand made strategic sense. To streamline the process, we created prototypes during the UX design phase using placeholder visuals, avoiding unnecessary work. These prototypes were validated both within our teams and with the users, allowing detailed research-driven conversations about which features to include with the Allas team.
Throughout this period, we also maintained close communication with Bond to ensure that our interface designs complemented their visual brand identity.
React Native was our technology of choice, enabling us to efficiently develop both iOS and Android versions simultaneously.
On the back end, the app needed to integrate with Allas Pool's access control system to provide real-time occupancy status. Additionally, seamless communication with the sales system was essential for handling membership purchases smoothly. To meet these requirements, we chose Google Firebase – its ease of integration allowed us to move forward efficiently. Moreover, it serves as a middle layer between the app and the back end systems. This increases security and makes further development easier.
By working closely with the Allas members, we continue to refine existing features and develop new ones to better meet their needs.
Allas Pool is currently expanding with a new centre in Tallinn. As a result, the next major step for the app is introducing it to Estonian audiences. With a solid technical foundation in place, the solution is fully scalable and ready to take on the world.
