Starting point
Solubility is one of the most critical variables in early-stage drug development. It determines whether a promising compound can progress from laboratory experiments to clinical trials.
The Solubility Company has solved this challenge with its patented, computer-vision-based SPA® method, which measures solubility quickly, reliably, and with sample quantities as small as a few dozen micrograms. The method combines optics, computer vision, and intelligent algorithms, enabling solubility analysis for nearly any solid compound in any transparent solvent.
Rapid commercial growth soon revealed the limits of the original software setup, which had been designed for a single research group. Laboratory work was split across several separate tools, manual notes, and Excel sheets — slowing down operations, increasing the risk of human error, and making data traceability difficult, especially with laboratories operating in both Finland and the United States.
Solubility needed one integrated, secure system to support the entire production chain—from measurement and analysis to reporting and client communication—while scaling to international use. Taiste designed and built a modern, commercial, and extensible ERP platform around the SPA® method, creating a unified process with stronger data reliability and an efficient foundation for globally operating drug development workflows.

Solution
The solution was shaped during a Design Sprint, which mapped the end-to-end measurement process and identified the most critical user needs. This required rethinking the research workflow from the perspectives of efficiency, data reliability, and user experience. The sprint produced a clear development path that aligned research practices, technical architecture, and business goals.
The system was designed and implemented in phases: the measurement and analysis components were built and tested first, followed by administrative features, registries, and AI-readiness.
The final solution connects Solubility’s entire workflow from order intake to reporting. Computer vision processes measurements alongside laboratory work and automatically transforms raw data into structured, interpretable results—accelerating the workflow and reducing errors, especially when only minimal sample quantities are available. Customer projects, orders, measurements, and device data are linked into a single unified view, with real-time visibility into process progress.
